বাড়ীর বৈঠকখানায়, বাসার পড়ার ঘরে,
ডিপার্টমেণ্টের সেমিনার কক্ষে
কিংবা লাইব্রেরীর নিস্তব্ধতায়
জমেছে যদিও অল্প-স্বল্প আড্ডা;
জমেনি কভু ধোঁয়া-ওঠা চায়ের কাপে
কিংবা সিগারেটে,
চায়ের দোকানে, হোটেল-রেস্তোরাঁ
কিংবা পাড়ার মোড়ে।
তাই বুঝি কেউ কেউ ভাবে বড্ড রুক্ষ-শুষ্ক এ লোক,
আগ বাড়িয়েও বলে না কথা কভু, এ কোন উজবুক!
বন্ধুভাগ্য বুঝি তার নিতান্তই স্বল্প?
হ্যাঁ তাই, বন্ধুভাগ্য সত্যিই বড্ড সীমিত;
তাইতো মাঝে-মধ্যে হতে হয় দলিত-মথিত!
অথচ তারও একটা প্রশস্থ মন আছে,
সবার জন্য ভালোবাসা আছে,
সত্যবাকে সাহস আছে,
প্রিয় কিছু বন্ধু আছে;
যারা করবে প্রাণপাত প্রয়োজনে বা বিপদে
কিংবা করেছেও অতীতে।
স্বাচ্ছ্বন্দ্যেই পারে যে নিতে ঘাড়ে
বিশ্বাস-অবিশ্বাস, ডান-বাম, মত-পথ নির্বিশেষে
তীব্র তর্ক-দ্বন্ধের বোঝা,
কাজটা তার কাছে বড়ই সোজা!
তাই বিনীত নিবেদন আজ –
দয়া করে ভুল তারে না বুঝে,
স্থান দিও তব সুস্থ চিন্তা আর সুন্দর মনের মাঝে;
তোমার সাথে তবেই হবে অমলিন বন্ধন,
থাকবে যা অটুট আজীবন।

In the living room of the house, in the reading room of the house,
In the seminar room of the department
Or in the silence of the library
Accumulated though little chat;
but didn't gathered on the smoky tea cup
or cigarettes,
Tea shops, hotels and restaurants
Or at the corner of the neighbourhood street.
So some people think that this man is very rough and dry.
Don't talk too much, what a nitwit!
is his friendship luck is very little?
Yes, friendship is indeed very limited;
therefore sometimes you have to be oppressed!
But he also has a broad mind,
There is love for all,
has courage to tell the truth,
Have some dear friends;
Those who will die in need or in danger
